ICANN has now ordered VeriSign to stop making domain-not-found requests under .net and .com redirect to VeriSign's web site.
VeriSign implemented this service in order to generate more domain registrations. If VeriSign doesn't shut down the SiteFinder service by Saturday, Oct. 4th, then ICANN may sue to cut VeriSign out of managing the .com and the .net domains. Which would hurt VeriSign's security certificates business.
