Chopper_D, the digital music store of your dreams is finally here. Further proving that anyone and everyone will have a digital music store...

Let's be frank. Ostensibly this QT clip is about filmaking, but anyone who's worked in an office space will identify. Can you say subtext?
Catch the Creeper on the web!
To tie in with the video debut of JEEPERS CREEPERS II January 23, MGM has posted a “Catch the Creeper” game here. The Pac-Man-style game challenges you as the Creeper to eat up a field of dots and avoid the farmers who are out to get you. It’s part of the overall JEEPERS CREEPERS II video-release official website, which offers a trailer, a list of the DVD’s many special features, a link to the movie’s original theatrical site and more.

If you read the planned changes for the Windows XP Service Pack 2, then you may become a better person.

Jarn always hates when I make reference to the line "Elf booty got soul" from a Lords of the Rhymes song. For some reason, he can't find the humor in Hobbit rap. Well, I noticed a link on Metafilter with the exact same title. It looks like there is an internet wide conspiracy to piss Jarn off! Warning: NSFW.
"They have been studying Linux extensively. Part of their study has been on how Linux has been able to maintain a high level of consistency in the kernel while groups around it maintain maximum flexibility." Guess who...

In order to stay sane and to prevent the abuse of alcohol during and after work hours, we often get some gaming time during our lunch breaks. While we have been deeply satisfied with our current entertainment, we occasionally talk about picking up a different game. Lo and behold, somebody on Slashdot asked a similar question. The results are interesting, which peaks my interests towards BZFlag and Scorched 3D.

More than 50 percent of all Internet traffic across the world passes through Virginia -- AOL and 1,300 service providers or technology companies are located there. So it figures this is where we find the first felony prosecution for violation of antispam statutes. The spammers could (make that SHOULD) do 20 years.

"OH, LORDY!: Proving that old hobbits are hard to break, Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has expressed interest in securing film rights to The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien's prequel to the Rings trilogy. 'I'd be interested in doing it,' he says, 'because I think it would give continuity to the overall chapter.'"
HelpDesk Anecdote; Working on a HP Proliant DL380 G3 with Win 2003 Ent Ed. The box is in a Cluster as a second node, we noticed it kept failing , blue screening and rebooting. Troubleshooting both e With M$ & HP. At this point to no avail. This morning I cam in the box had blue screened, but it was like a scrolling Blue screen, sorta like when you try to adjust the Vertical and Horizontal setting on the back of an old TV. Writing was a slanted while scrolling kinda like the Star Wars opening plot text. Thought this was pretty funny, putting it up for a vote on a new Term for this occurrence, I will start with BlueScreen of the DeathStar.

Feds get a 'D' in computer security. Anyone else scared that even NASA can't secure their own network? If the rocket scientists can't do it, who can?
Microsoft skips December security updates. Allow me to translate their excuse: It's not that we're not doing anything, it's just that we're not doing anything. Should make for a fun Christmas full of hacked machines...
Not sure if it is PC to Steal from another blog but here goes. The Daily Blog: The Segway/Skynet Connection: "Good Ol' Uncle Sam -- always looking to take something relatively harmless and turn it into something the military can use (usually to blow things up)."
Steve Jobs talks about the music industry, iTunes Store & iPod sales in RollingStone.com. I'm blogging this for this great quote: 'When we first went to talk to these record companies -- about eighteen months ago -- we said, "None of this technology that you're talking about's gonna work. We have Ph.D.s here who know the stuff cold, and we don't believe it's possible to protect digital content."' Jobs goes on to point out that the record companies kept pushing Apple away until they realized that subscription services won't cut it.
If you see a Windows sticker on your ATM, run, don't walk, to a different ATM. This is exactly why I don't want Windows popping up in all sorts of places you don't expect. Do you seriously want to run security updates your refrigerator, car, and wrist watch every month?
How much is digital music worth?: It's a good article on CNet about digital music, but I'm blogging it for the quote "Apple buyers tend to have higher incomes and greater technological sophistication than the PC audience as a whole". Yup Chopper_D, I thought you'd enjoy that...

Microsoft, bowing to legal pressure from their Java settlement, will no longer be distributing several products. The big products include Office 2000, IE 5.5, SQL Server 7 and Windows 98 (except SE). Support for these products is expected to remain.
I'm glad most of this stuff is being tossed, save for IE 5.5, which is still used way too much.

Jarn, this link's for you! I'm blatantly stealing the link from Slashdot - it was too good to pass up...
Kazaa has ordered that Kazaa Lite be shut down. They said that their copyrights were being infringed! It's interesting that the world's largest tool for downloading copyrighted material is claiming copyright infringement. What's really funny though is now that the web site is down, Kazaa Lite will be distributed over Kazaa's own network. Internet Karma?
Ars Technica has a great article call the used Mac buyer's guide. I've linked to the 3rd part of this series which covers laptops.
Concerning the BCS crap that has the #1 team in the nation not playing for the championship, we have a great quote from one of of the USC scholar-athletes, Cornerback Will Poole: "I learned a little about life in general. You can't let a computer make decisions for you. Computers are going to take over. The next thing you know, everybody is going to be out of a job. Computers are going to play football. If you let computers run the world, what are humans going to do?"

Joss Whedon previews the Firefly DVD and has the quote of the day: "And one of the episodes is them defending a whorehouse. And you can never have enough episodes about people defending a whorehouse." I, for one, can't wait for my DVD's to ship.
Well, at least the people who made and starred in Battlestar Galactica like it. That's worth something isn't it? For all you naysayers out there who expect BG to suck, just remember one very important fact: Keanu (aka Lord of the Tools) is NOT in the film. It already better than the second and third Matrix films...

In an attempt to not help customers, Dell has decided it's good business to forbid spyware removal support. Sounds like a good decision to me! Why waste time helping customers when you can fall back to the good old "restore your system from the restore CD?" I wonder if they bother to tell customers they'll lose all their data when they do it... We use Spybot Search and Destroy on a daily basis here and I can't tell you how many times it's saved a computer from a horrible spyware infested death. I officially nominate all of Dell support as the tool of the week. However, since this obviously covers more than one person, I'll steal a phrase from an earlier comment and call them the "Toolbox of the week." Shame on you Dell support. Shame, shame...

Will TiVo Destroy Ad-Supported TV? Probably not. There may be more advertisements within a show. And TV producers may make sure advertisements get as much screen time as possible.
