Doctor Who is back.
All that is old will be new again.

Chrome Apples? William Gibson would be SO proud.
Yahoo walls out Trillian. The question begs asking: does anyone actually use Yahoo Messenger?

For any one Using Trillain Basic as their IM, they have a PATCH E

What do you do when no one cares about your TV show? How 'bout giving it a new name! I've got a better idea - more hot vulcans!
King Trailer To Debut! "New Line Cinema announced that the new trailer for its upcoming third Lord of the Rings movie, The Return of the King, will hit theaters on Sept. 26, attached to prints of Secondhand Lions. The trailer will then debut online at the official Web site on Sept. 29." Are you telling me we would have to sit through Haley Joel Osment film just to catch the trailer? That's SO not right!
I hate to steal a link from slashdot, but the RIAA is suing grandma for stealing Gangsta Rap songs. Throw your lawsuits in the air! Wave 'em like you just don't care!
It looks like Gov Davis will do just about anything to get your vote. Will you vote for him if he bans spam? He might have an easier time shooting for world peace...
How many times a week do you get this question;

I have received a notice that my email is undeliverable because of a virus, but I did not send the email, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

May want to put this link up to avoid the question....
MSN will be suspending its chat service, due to their misuse by spammers and child molesters. Evidently the automated control system MS put into place wasn't cutting the cheese, and we all know they won't pay human mods to police a non-moneymaking service.

There's a new RTS game being developed in the Lord of the Rings universe called Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring. It's made by the same people that put out Command and Conquer. I doubt it can replace WC3, but it might be a boatload of fun to play! The Demo version is now available for download.
No Electricity? Use a Wind-Up Phone Charger
I can just see these Jackoffs cranking these things....Should be quite a sight
Nvidia jumps into handheld market. That's great, but will my PDA be able to play Medal of Honor?
Good Morning All,
Just testing out this Blog. Saw UnderWorld This Weekend Despite the review I thought it was pretty good, a little slow in the middle but I think it sets itself up for a nice sequel. Kate Beckinsale in tight leather, and kicking ass VERY NICE. Anyone else catch it, thoughts?

A high-and-mighty crypto-geek criticizes linux-based security software packages, including at least one VPN client, as sayeth by the mighty Slashdot. But check out this interesting quote from zee geek:
What's even worse is that some of the flaws were pointed out nearly two years ago, but despite the hype about open-source products being quicker with security fixes, some of the protocols still haven't been fixed. At least Microsoft eventually tries to fix their stuff, given sufficient public embarrassment and the odd hundred thousand or so computers being taken out by attackers.
As Linux development picks up more, holes like these will be eventually sealed. But two years is a long time for a fix.

Edit: I really like this guy's commentary:
Whenever someone thinks that they can replace SSL/SSH with something much better that they designed this morning over coffee, their computer speakers should generate some sort of penis-shaped sound wave and plunge it repeatedly into their skulls until they achieve enlightenment.
Are you tired this morning? Not able to browse the web at your normal speed? Why not have a cup of Mozilla Coffee? It looks like I'm not the only Mozilla mark out there!
Episode III Wraps. But what George Lucas doesn't understand is that the whole series was "wrapped" when he decided to market plush ewok toys to 3 year olds in Return of the Jedi...

HP/Compaq has added this Where do I find the "Any" key on my keyboard? FAQ. This could be helpful, except that a user stupid enough to not know what "press any key" means will be stupid enough to be unable to find this FAQ.

When I redesign our helpdesk's web site, I might throw this FAQ in there for craps and giggles.

Are you tired of getting the nag screen in WinZip? Your copy of WinRAR expired? Sourceforge comes to the rescue again with 7-Zip. Perfect shell integration and it works with zip and rar files (and many more file types).
I've added links to the sidebar for Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla Thunderbird. The best internet browser and e-mail client hands down. They are both free and full of open-source goodness. Use them once and Internet Explorer and Outlook Express will be a thing of the past! Download and enjoy! If you have other files or sites you think should be listed on the sidebar I'm open to suggestions.

Why can't we just all get along? The makers of Trillian think we can. So do the makers of Gaim. Anyone for any open source chat medium? Someone call Sourceforge!

The Next Big Windows Headache is on its way.

Malicious hackers are starting to circulate computer code that exploits recently found vulnerabilities in some versions of Microsoft's Windows operating system.

I feel like I'm sitting on the beach watching the hurricane blow in. Most of our student user base have probably not patched, despite all their problems with Blaster a month ago.

Microsoft Windows Update: "Recommended Update for Windows Rights Management client 1.0
Download size: 3.6 MB, < 1 minute

The Windows Rights Management (RM) client is required for your computer to run applications that provide functionality based on RM technologies. Installing this client allows RM-aware applications to work with Windows Rights Management Services (RMS) to provide licenses for publishing and consuming RM-protected information. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. "

Does this sound like a bad idea to anyone else?
KILL BILL - THE 4TH FILM BY QUENTIN TARANTINO There's a new trailer for Kill Bill. This movie keeps looking better and better! Oh, and the plot should be good too.
OK, Here's the first stupid user comment:
Last week, I got to my desk after lunch, refreshed the helpdesk and got:
"Client is requesting help putting her printer back together." The clients name starts with Claud...
Steve knows who I am talking about. The afternoon went downhill from there...
AOL Time Warner drops AOL from name

Now, if we could only get grandma to drop it from her computer!
